Mudjacking for Concrete Raising at Commercial Complex in Revere, MA

The Challenge

Concrete walkways connecting three large commercial buildings had experienced differential settlement over time. Most notably, the slabs had tilted toward the buildings, causing water to drain and pool directly against the foundations. During winter months, snow melt would refreeze along these walkways, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrian traffic and increasing liability risks for the property owner.

Project Considerations

A traditional “rip and replace” approach was not desirable due to the disruption it would cause to the active commercial complex. Concrete demolition, noise, and extended construction schedules would negatively impact surrounding businesses and pedestrian access. A faster, less invasive solution was required to correct the settlement while keeping the property fully operational.

Our Solution

Engineered Foundation Technologies utilized mudjacking as an effective alternative to concrete replacement. A viscous cement slurry was injected beneath the settled slabs through small drilled holes, allowing the concrete to be raised and re-leveled with precision. The process quickly corrected the slope of the walkways and restored proper drainage away from the buildings.

Results & Benefits

Mudjacking successfully stabilized and re-leveled the concrete walkways, eliminating water pooling and improving pedestrian safety. The entire project was completed in just two days with minimal disruption to the commercial tenants. This approach delivered a durable repair solution at a fraction of the cost and inconvenience of full concrete replacement.
